We offer professional stump grinding services, erasing tree stumps and rejuvenating your landscape.
When should I consider getting the stump ground?
We recommend grinding stumps for three reasons:
First, the stump can be an eyesore if it is located in a prominent area, such as the front yard.
Secondly, the stump can be a tripping hazard if it is near a lot of pedestrian traffic where kids enjoy playing. One trip to the ER for stitches cost more than taking care of grinding the stump.
Third, over the long-term stump will decay. This decay wood attracts bugs and insects. When they are done feasting on your stump, they can then spread to other trees on the property, causing unwanted damage.
Is it ever a good idea not to grind a stump?
If a tree is located on a hill, the stump and root system are likely helping prevent erosion. Sometimes leaving the stump until a retaining wall can be put in is a wise choice. Also, if the stump is near other healthy trees, caution must be taken when grinding or else the critical root zone of the surrounding trees can be compromised. If the tree is located in the front yard, always make sure that 811 is called to mark utilities before stump grinding occurs.
How deep should we grind our stump?
Our team of experts offers three different depths for stump grinding based on the long-term plan for the property. They include the following:
- Surface Grinding - Simply grind the stump level with the surrounding ground to eliminate a tripping hazard. This also helps guarantee maximum protection of the critical root zone for surrounding trees.
- Shallow Grinding - With this option we offer grinding the stump 6 to 8 inches below the surface. This is perfect for flower beds or grass to be planted leaving space for fresh soil.
- Deep Grinding - With a deep grind, we grind the tree stump until it is completely eliminated. This option allows another tree could be planted in the exact same spot.
