Tree Removal Service Along the Chattahoochee

Vinings sits on the Cobb County bank of the Chattahoochee River, across from Buckhead, with Paces Ferry Road running through the middle of it. The community grew up around a railroad stop and a river ferry, and today its streets mix historic homes, newer estates, townhomes and wooded lots, some of them sloping toward the water. Big oaks, poplars and pines shade a lot of those properties. When one of them starts to fail, you need a tree removal service that can take it down in controlled pieces and knows the extra rules that can apply near the river.

Restoration Tree Care is a family-owned, insured tree company based in Cobb County. We handle removal of large and hazardous trees for homeowners, property managers and associations, from the first site visit to the final cleanup.

Rules Near the River

Georgia’s Metropolitan River Protection Act created a corridor that reaches 2,000 feet from each bank of the Chattahoochee through metro Atlanta, and some homes here fall inside it. Within that corridor, land disturbance, which includes disturbing existing vegetation, has to follow the Chattahoochee Corridor Plan. The plan keeps a 50 foot undisturbed vegetative buffer along the river and a 35 foot buffer along flowing streams in the corridor.

That doesn’t mean every tree near the water is off limits, but it does mean the location of the tree matters. Before we start, we check whether your property is in the corridor and whether the tree sits in a buffer. If it does, Cobb County’s planning office and the Atlanta Regional Commission are the ones to ask about what’s allowed.

Sloped Lots and Big Hardwoods

Where a Vinings backyard drops away from the house, that changes how a big tree has to come down. On a slope, there’s no flat landing zone, and logs want to roll. So our climbers take the tree apart from the top, and the crew lowers each section on ropes to a spot we’ve picked out ahead of time. When the trunk is too close to the house or the slope is too steep to work safely from below, a crane may be the better option.

We also think about what’s left behind. Roots help hold soil in place, so after a large removal on a hillside, we’ll talk with you about ground cover or replanting to keep the bank from washing out.

Signs It’s Time to Call

  • A trunk that has started to lean toward the house, the driveway or the street
  • Cracks where large limbs meet the trunk
  • Mushrooms, soft wood or hollow spots near the base
  • Dead limbs over the roof, the pool or a parked car
  • Soil heaving or roots lifting on the uphill side

Not every problem means removal. Our arborist services can tell you whether a tree can be saved with pruning or trimming instead, and we’ll say so if it can.

How a Job Comes Together

  • Site visit. We look at the tree, the slope, the access and anything it could hit, then give you a written price.
  • Access plan. In gated neighborhoods and townhome communities, we coordinate the date, gate entry and parking with you or your association.
  • Takedown. The crew removes the tree in sections, protecting the lawn, beds and hardscape along the way.
  • Cleanup. We haul the wood and brush and rake the work area. Stump grinding happens during the same appointment if you want it.

Storm Damage

Wet ground near the river and summer thunderstorms are a hard combination for tall trees. If one comes down on your home or blocks the driveway, call us. Our emergency crews respond around the clock and start by getting the weight off the structure. If a tree is on a power line, stay clear and call the utility first.

Questions We Hear Here

My home is close to the Chattahoochee. Are there extra rules for removing a tree?

There can be. Properties within 2,000 feet of the river may be inside the protected corridor, where vegetation along the river and streams is held in undisturbed buffers. We’ll check your property before work starts, and Cobb County planning can confirm what’s allowed.

My mailing address says Atlanta. Do you serve my home?

Yes. The Postal Service uses Atlanta for the 30339 ZIP code, but Vinings is in Cobb County, and it’s part of our regular service area.

Can you remove a tree from a steep backyard?

Yes. We take the tree down in sections and lower the pieces on ropes so nothing rolls downhill. If the slope is too steep to work from below, we may bring in a crane.

I live in a gated community. How do you handle access?

Let us know when you schedule. We’ll coordinate gate entry, parking and work hours with you or your association so the crew can get in and out without trouble.

Will taking down a big tree affect erosion on my slope?

It can. Roots help hold soil, especially on a hillside. After a large removal, plan on ground cover or new plantings to keep the soil in place.

Restoration Tree Care went through the tops of every tree in our property. We have A LOT of trees and they didn’t miss one searching for dead limbs. I feel so much safer having my family out in our woods now. Their pricing is very reasonable! They are “my people” from now on!

They did a great job removing a big sweetgum and a pine tree from the backyard. The crew worked carefully around the house, and yard, dropped the trees safely, and kept everything under control. They really took their time on the large sections and tripple checking their cuts. Professional work, solid cleanup. Would use them again and recommend them to anyone. My neighbor is already using them!

Thomas and his team were extremely easy to work with. I think the whole process from introduction to job complete was right at a week. We had a few trees removed and a lot of trees trimmed. They were extremely cautious about our property and insuring that none of our outdoor furniture or orchard trees were damaged as they removed both limbs and trunks of surrounding trees.

It's not often that a single word speaks volumes but that is absolutely the case with the owner of Restoration Tree Care, Thomas. It's not I know a guy. It's I know the guy. My parents had to have four trees taken down in their backyard. A crane was brought in as two of the trunks had to be lifted over their house... And yes, it was one of those "eek" moments. Thomas tied off and sectioned the two largest trees personally. Even with the drizzle throughout the longer than anticipated day, Thomas and his crew were professional and honest from start to finish. When I asked my dad if he was satisfied with the work he told me "Yes, definitely! With the exception of the trees being gone, you can't even tell they were here!" The right crew, the right equipment, the right guy!! Thank you, Restoration Tree service for changing an "eek" moment to a "phew" moment!!
