Tree Removal Service for South Cobb’s Newest City

Mableton has a long history and a short one. The area takes its name from Robert Mable, a Scottish immigrant who bought land here in 1843, and his house still stands on Floyd Road. But Mableton only became a city after voters approved incorporation in November 2022. Today it stretches from the Silver Comet Trail and Six Flags Over Georgia to the Chattahoochee River, with older neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and plenty of wooded lots in between. When a big tree on one of those lots becomes a hazard, you need a tree removal service that can take it down safely and knows how the new city’s rules work.

Restoration Tree Care is a family-owned, insured tree company based in Cobb County. We handle removal of dead, leaning and storm damaged trees for homeowners, landlords and property managers, and our own crew does the work from start to finish.

What the City’s Rules Say

According to the City of Mableton, homeowners don’t need a permit to remove individual trees on residential property. There are a few exceptions worth knowing:

  • If a tree sits in a designated tree save area, or was required as part of the original development, it has to stay unless it’s unsafe, and replanting may be required.
  • If the work disturbs more than 1,500 square feet of ground, a minor land disturbance permit may be needed.
  • The city adopted a tree preservation ordinance in 2025, and it keeps a tree canopy page with more information.

Before we start, we look at whether your tree could fall into one of those categories. If anything is unclear, the city’s planning staff can confirm it.

Trails, Creeks and Property Lines

Some homes here back up to the Silver Comet Trail, Nickajack Creek or a strip of woods that belongs to someone else. Trees on that land aren’t yours to remove, even when they lean over your yard. We’ll confirm where the tree stands before giving you a price, and if it’s on trail or public land, the owner has to handle it or approve the work. Homes near the Chattahoochee may also fall inside the state’s protected river corridor, where buffers limit what can be cleared.

Signs a Tree Needs Attention

  • A lean that’s new or getting worse after rain
  • Large dead limbs over the roof, the driveway or a play set
  • Peeling bark, fungus or soft wood near the base
  • Cracks running down the trunk or where big limbs attach
  • A pine that has browned out from the top

Some trees can be saved. Our arborist services will tell you whether trimming or pruning would make the tree safe, and we’ll say so if it can stay.

How We Work

Every job starts with a site visit and a written price. On the day of the job, a climber works from the top of the tree down, and the crew lowers limbs and trunk sections on ropes so they don’t hit the house, the fence or the neighbor’s yard. If a tree can’t be reached safely any other way, a crane may be used. When the wood is down, we chip the brush, haul everything away and rake the yard. Stump grinding happens during the same appointment if you want the stump gone.

After a Storm

Summer thunderstorms and the occasional ice storm bring down trees all over south Cobb. If one lands on your house, your car or the driveway, call us. Our emergency crews respond around the clock and start by getting the weight off the structure. If a tree is on a power line, stay clear and call the utility before anyone touches it.

We’re a full tree service working throughout Cobb County, including Smyrna, Austell and Powder Springs. See what homeowners say on our reviews page, or learn more about our team.

Questions About the City and Your Trees

Mableton became a city in 2022. Did that change the rules for removing trees?

The city now has its own rules, but for most homeowners the answer is simple: removing an individual tree on residential property doesn’t require a permit. The exceptions are trees in tree save areas, trees required by the original development, and work that disturbs more than 1,500 square feet.

What’s a tree save area, and how do I know if my tree is in one?

It’s a part of a lot that was set aside to keep existing trees when the subdivision or home was built. It may show up on your plat or site plan. If you’re not sure, the city’s planning staff can check.

My yard backs up to the Silver Comet Trail. Who handles trees on the trail side?

Trees on trail property belong to the trail’s owner, not to you, so they have to handle or approve the work. If a tree on your side of the line is the problem, we can take care of it.

Could one tree removal go over the 1,500 square foot limit?

Usually not. Taking down a single tree and grinding the stump rarely disturbs that much ground. Clearing a large area or regrading afterward can, so tell us about the whole project and we’ll point out anything that may need a permit.

How fast can you come out after a storm?

Our emergency crews respond around the clock. Call us as soon as it’s safe, and stay away from any tree that’s touching a power line.

Restoration Tree Care went through the tops of every tree in our property. We have A LOT of trees and they didn’t miss one searching for dead limbs. I feel so much safer having my family out in our woods now. Their pricing is very reasonable! They are “my people” from now on!

They did a great job removing a big sweetgum and a pine tree from the backyard. The crew worked carefully around the house, and yard, dropped the trees safely, and kept everything under control. They really took their time on the large sections and tripple checking their cuts. Professional work, solid cleanup. Would use them again and recommend them to anyone. My neighbor is already using them!

Thomas and his team were extremely easy to work with. I think the whole process from introduction to job complete was right at a week. We had a few trees removed and a lot of trees trimmed. They were extremely cautious about our property and insuring that none of our outdoor furniture or orchard trees were damaged as they removed both limbs and trunks of surrounding trees.

It's not often that a single word speaks volumes but that is absolutely the case with the owner of Restoration Tree Care, Thomas. It's not I know a guy. It's I know the guy. My parents had to have four trees taken down in their backyard. A crane was brought in as two of the trunks had to be lifted over their house... And yes, it was one of those "eek" moments. Thomas tied off and sectioned the two largest trees personally. Even with the drizzle throughout the longer than anticipated day, Thomas and his crew were professional and honest from start to finish. When I asked my dad if he was satisfied with the work he told me "Yes, definitely! With the exception of the trees being gone, you can't even tell they were here!" The right crew, the right equipment, the right guy!! Thank you, Restoration Tree service for changing an "eek" moment to a "phew" moment!!
